#9 of my 40 things post, I talk about investing in a quality pair of hiking boots. This one is hard because I’ve struggled for a few years with finding comfortable shoes. I plan to write a post soon about recent revelations surrounding my feet, but just know my feet suck!
I scoured websites and read so many reviews, and honestly, I was uncomfortable spending over $100 on a pair of hiking boots when I wasn’t sure they would work long-term. Plus, I wanted something a bit lightweight since I was a newbie hiker and knew I wasn’t going to do intense or long hikes.
In walks these Eddie Bauer Hiking Sneakers. They have 4.3 stars on Amazon with only 97 ratings but I read most of the reviews. Some of the reviews describe them as “lightweight and comfortable”, “large toe box and wide fit”, and “good quality”.
I bought these on January 5th, I’ve had them for 7 months. I wore them to hike Hanging Rock, Morrow Mountain, Alder Trail at Lake Norman, Hawk Loop Trail at Lake Norman, Lover’s Leap, and the trails at Yadkin Memorial Park at Lake Hampton.
Here are my thoughts:
- They are very roomy while also being secure. I like how high they are.
- I have to wear thick, moisture-wicking, crew-style socks to protect my heels from chaffing and to keep my feet from sweating. I like these.
- They have great traction. I have worn them on super steep, rocky hikes while also wearing them in sandy areas.
- I have worn them in cold weather as well as hot weather and I have to say that with appropriate socks, they hold up well in all climates.
- I like to add inserts for added support, but again, my feet suck!
- I cannot comment on their ability to resist water, as I wear a different style of shoe if I will be crossing water.
Overall, they have done well for me. Do you have a favorite hiking boot or sneaker? I would love to hear your feedback and recommendations.
Feel free to ask any questions as I’m sure I haven’t covered everything.
Happy Hiking!
