Welcome back to the Tea with a Taurus April Challenge — where every day, we take one small but mighty step toward living more unapologetically.
Today’s focus: Reflecting on a time you stood up for yourself.
Maybe it was quiet. Maybe it was messy. Maybe it broke your heart a little — but helped you heal a whole lot more.
For me, it was the day I finally decided to cut ties with someone who had hurt me time and time again: my father.
My Story: Choosing Myself After a Lifetime of Disappointment
Growing up, my father was mostly absent. Birthdays passed without a phone call. Holidays without a visit. I vividly remember sitting by the phone on my 10th birthday, hoping he’d call. He didn’t. And that became the pattern.
As I got older, the absence didn’t go away — it just came wrapped in a different form. He’d reach out inconsistently, rarely sober enough to have a meaningful conversation. I tried to meet him halfway for years, but it never felt like enough for him.
Then came Father’s Day. I missed calling him — not out of anger, but because I was simply trying to survive. I was a single mom, going through a hard season of life, barely holding myself together. That’s when he posted a public message on social media, calling me out for being a “terrible daughter.”
That was my moment.
The moment I chose to stand up for myself.
The moment I realized I didn’t have to keep inviting pain back in, just because we shared DNA.
The moment I said, No more.
I walked away. I chose peace. I chose me.
Why Standing Up for Yourself Matters
When we think of confidence and self-expression, we often imagine bold outfits, powerful affirmations, or finally saying “yes” to a dream. But sometimes, it looks like quietly walking away. Like closing a door — and not looking back.
Standing up for yourself is one of the highest forms of self-love. It’s not about anger or revenge. It’s about boundaries. It’s about reclaiming your energy.
And it’s okay if your moment didn’t look like anyone else’s. What matters is that it changed you.
💖 Today’s Affirmation:
I honor my growth by protecting my peace.
