After conquering our inner critic last week, it’s time to channel that newfound confidence into setting goals that truly ignite our passion. This week, we’re diving deep into the art of crafting goals that not only motivate us but also resonate with our deepest desires.

How often have you set goals that seemed exciting at first but quickly lost their luster? You’re not alone. Many of us set goals based on what we think we should do, rather than what we genuinely want to do. This week, we’re changing that. We’re learning to set goals that are not just achievable, but truly inspiring.

The Power of Inspiring Goals

Setting inspiring goals goes beyond simply outlining what you want to achieve. It’s about connecting with your “why,” aligning your goals with your values, and creating a vision that fuels your passion. When your goals are inspiring, they:

  • Boost Motivation: You’re more likely to stay committed when your goals excite you.
  • Increase Fulfillment: Achieving inspiring goals brings a deeper sense of satisfaction.
  • Drive Purpose: Your goals become a roadmap for living a life aligned with your values.

How to Set Goals That Inspire:

  1. Connect with Your “Why”:
    • Ask yourself: “Why is this goal important to me?” Dig deep to uncover the underlying reasons.
    • Connect your goals to your core values and passions.

  2. SMART+E Goals:

    • Add an “E” for “Exciting.” Your goals should energize and inspire you.
    • Example: Instead of “Read more”, “Read one non fiction book a month about a topic I am passionate about, and write a one page summary”.

    • Imagine yourself achieving your goal in vivid detail.
    • Feel the emotions of success – joy, pride, accomplishment.
    • Create a vision board or use visualization techniques to reinforce your vision.
  4. Break Down Big Goals:
    • Large goals can feel overwhelming. Break them into smaller, manageable steps.
    • Celebrate each milestone along the way to maintain momentum.
    • Example: If your goal is to write a book, break it down into chapters, then daily word counts.
  5. Embrace Flexibility:
    • Life is unpredictable. Be open to adjusting your goals as needed.

    • Remember that goals are a guide, not a rigid set of rules.
